Mystery of the Holy Grail

I was thinking abt a new topic to post for my blog.. when i stumbled upon this topic during a chat session with my friend.. This topic arose when we were discussing abt the book by Dan Brown, The Da Vinci Code.. I admit tht i had very little knowledge abt the grail.. untill i read the book. My idea of the grail was totally different from the one by the author. It just threw me off limits. So i decided to crack the puzzle left to me by Dan Brown.

well.. the book mainly revolves around the plot of finding the holy grail.. The story begins with the murder of the Louvre's curator (Jacques Sauniere) in the museum, who is the Grand Master of a secret society known as the Priory of Sion. The Priory guards an ancient secret. Before dying, the curator attempts to pass on the secret to his granddaughter Sophie, and Robert Langdon, by leaving a number of clues that he hopes will help them to the secret.

The secret being refered to in the book, is the location and identity of the holy grail. In the book, the grail has been refered to as the person of Mary Magdalene, the wife of Jesus, who carried on the royal bloodline of Christ by giving birth to His child!. The Priory of Sion mentioned in the book, supposedly guards the secret location of Mary's tomb and protects the bloodline of Jesus that has continued to this day! It also includes the secret parchments (also known as the Le Dossiers)which has the story of Mary and Jesus.

Here's cometh the main problem. Acoording to the Bible, the grail is supposed to be a cup allegdly used by Lord Christ at the Last Supper. It also mentions that Jesus was never married..and Mary Magdalene was a whore. So, if the facts given by the author turns out to be true, it will undermine the authority of the church and completely discredit biblical Christianity.

As an average reader, who knows nothin about the grail and its truth, I almost believed the story by the author with his well planned facts, all linking beautifully through Leonardo Da Vinci. I had a suspiction abt this earlier, but i clarified it though other sources in internet and encyclopedia, which refers to the grail as the cup. But recently, i came to know tht there still exist people who believe in Priory of Sion and the story of Mary.
As i m not a Christian, i wont believe in anythin unless i find out the truth about it. I do hope some one throws some light on this mystery.

Hello! I've read the book, too, and being somewhat of a relapsed Catholic...the author's ideas fascinated me (which, by the way, is more than what I can say for his writing style). You mentioned something about shedding some light into the ideas presented? Here's one I found: http://www.christianitytoday.com/history/newsletter/2003/nov7.html
